There was a period after the Second World War when automotive companies could not develop new machinery to take part in motor racing. So, to avoid simply having to wait until new cars were built and ready, older cars from before the war were dragged out of storage and sent out onto racetracks, including Goodwood, so that motorsport could get up and running again.
The Goodwood Trophy at the Revival goes some way to reimagining one of the very first races to take place at the Motor Circuit in 1949, where Reg Parnell in his Maserati 4CLT battled with ERAs, Altas and more. It was the introduction of grand prix racing at Goodwood, and all these years later we still love to watch many of those original racers take the track once again.
This race, along with so many others at the Revival, offers a fantastic idea of what life would have been like at Goodwood during that period from 1948-1966, not just the sights of the cars themselves, but the bravery of the drivers as they battle not only between themselves but with their cars as well.
